Concept
The concept for Fancy Jungle focused on contrasting the main character, who arrives in Los Angeles from New York as an outsider, with the established writers in the room. Her darker color palette and distinct New York style sets her apart from the brighter, more polished costumes of the successful writers. This contrast continues into the fictional TV world, where colorful suits inspired by The Wiggles emphasize the comedy, absurdity, and creative differences behind the terrible show they create. One of the most challenging elements was incorporating the horror of the main character who metaphorically feels like her insides are coming out which eventually becomes literal. Since she never leaves the stage, we had to find a way to contain and build this physical transformation throughout the first half, until she finally “spills her guts” in the second half.
